The New FU Library Portal - Bibliotheksportal | Primo
|
The discovery and delivery tool Primo provides an easy to use, single-search interface for accessing the entire spectrum of the university's collections and library resources. Users receive a single, relevance-ranked list of results.

Single Point of Access
In one operation users can search the old FU Catalog (including user account, requesting and reserving items), the old Digital Library (databases, database sets, e-journals), over 20 million articles licensed to the DFG (German Research Foundation), Online Content, and items in the ECONIS database of the Deutschen Zentralbibliothek für Wirtschaftswissenschaften: this is the new FU Catalog Plus.

Search results can quickly and easily be narrowed down, for example by selecting categories or "facets" - links that are automatically generated from a search that highlight parameters to refine searches (i.e., creation date, author(s), topic, resource type). Via the single-search interface users can now access all e-resources directly that are licensed to the FU (for terms and conditions see Access authorization and Terms of use). The availability of discovered items, including the books held in the libraries of the FU library system, is displayed with the list of results or can be checked via the "Further services" option (see Access authorization).
There are also Web 2.0 components: users can tag and review resources and subscribe to RSS feeds for their own searches.
New: Primo Central
Primo Central is a centralized index containing hundreds of millions of electronic resources of global and regional significance, which are obtained from primary and secondary publishers and aggregators. Thus through the Primo Central service members of the FU have access to hundreds of millions of items; the FU is one of the first universities to offer its users this service. Fulltexts of licensed resources can be accessed; via the "Further services" option users can check the availability of items (physical holding at the FU, resource held by other libraries, inter-library loan option).
Users can choose to search only holdings at the FU with FU Catalog Plus or to search these locally managed collections and global e-content simultaneously with Primo Central.
